The Police in Anambra State have vowed to apprehend and punish the hoodlums that burnt down Aguata Local Government Area (LGA) Secretariat at Ekwulobia on Thursday.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Aguata is Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s local government.
It was gathered that the gunmen who came on motorbikes commandeered a truck to block off the road, while they entered the secretariat, setting structures, shops and vehicles ablaze.
Most shops inside the council Secretariat were also burnt, including the main secretariat building, which houses several departments.
Soldiers only arrived after the gunmen who shot into the air for several minutes had escaped.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident.
He said: “I’m aware of the incident: we mobilized police operatives to the place.
“We are on top of the situation and we assure you that the hoodlums will not go unpunished.”
