President Muhammadu has vowed never to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The President, says the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, should defend himself in court for peddling false information about his regime while he was overseas.
In his latest interview with Channels Buhari said he would not interfere with the Judiciary.
some respected Igbo elders led by Minister of Aviation in the First Republic, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, visited the President in Aso Rock and requested the unconditional release of the detained secessionist leader.
During the visit on November 19, 2021, Buhari had told them he would not want to interfere in the running of the judiciary but said he would consider their demand though “a heavy one.”
However, when asked if he would release KANU, Mr President said: “We cannot release Nnamdi Kanu. There is no political solution to it. His case is for the judiciary. One of the things I promised myself is never to interfere with the jobs of the judiciary. I have given him the opportunity to defend himself.
Kanu has been insulting us. He has been given incorrect figures and comments against us. He needs to account for what he did But those who are saying that he should be released, no, we cannot release him.”
Recalled that Kanu, the Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, is standing trail of treasonable charges preferred against him by the federal government.
