The Wife of the Delta State Governor and Founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori, on Tuesday empowered 500 market women in the state with cash grants, sewing machines, and grinding machines through a partnership with Fidelity Bank Plc.
The empowerment programme took place at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, under Fidelity Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, “Give Her Power,” in collaboration with the You Matter Charity Foundation.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Oborevwori described the initiative as a major step toward improving the lives of women and promoting economic inclusion across Delta State.
She said the programme was designed not only to distribute support items but also to restore hope, strengthen families, and create opportunities for women to grow their businesses and contribute to society.
According to her, women play a critical role in community development, adding that empowering them would lead to stronger families and more prosperous communities.
She commended Fidelity Bank for partnering with her foundation to invest in women and community development, noting that such collaborations demonstrate the positive impact of aligning corporate organisations with social causes.
Mrs. Oborevwori disclosed that 400 women received cash grants amounting to ₦20 million, while 50 beneficiaries got grinding machines and another 50 received sewing machines to support their businesses.
She further announced an additional ₦20 million donation from the You Matter Charity Foundation, increasing the grant for each of the 400 women from ₦50,000 to ₦100,000.
She urged beneficiaries to make good use of the support by expanding their businesses, supporting their families, and contributing positively to their communities.
The Delta First Lady also reaffirmed her commitment to advancing women’s economic empowerment and social inclusion, while encouraging other corporate organisations to emulate Fidelity Bank’s gesture.
Earlier, Fidelity Bank Executive Director, South, Mrs. Pamela Shodipo, said the initiative reflected the bank’s commitment to community development through its Fidelity Helping Hands Programme.
She explained that the programme enables Fidelity Bank staff across various locations to identify and support impactful community projects.
According to her, the bank contributed ₦20 million to the You Matter Charity Foundation to support the empowerment scheme, stressing that empowering women creates lasting benefits for families, businesses, and society.
Mrs. Shodipo praised the Delta State First Lady for ensuring that the support reached deserving beneficiaries.
Also speaking, the bank’s Regional Head, Mrs. Augusta Anyanwu-Egbom, advised the women to cultivate good saving habits, maintain quality customer service, and improve product packaging to build sustainable businesses.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Joy Osegbuwa thanked the Delta State First Lady and Fidelity Bank for the initiative, describing the support as timely and impactful for market women across the state.
