Facts reaching news desk of Emerald News indicate that the People’s Democratic Party PDP is set to accommodate the governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki, into the party.
Governor Obaseki was on Friday disqualified by the screening committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) headed by Professor Jonathan Ayuba for academic reasons and NYSC matters.
The APC primaries is billed for June 22, 2020 in Benin City, the Edo state capital. Many of his supporters are calling are calling for him to move over to the PDP and get his second term as governor of Edo state.
Emerald News gathered that the PDP is ready to accept him into the party and work him to win the party primaries, although he may not get automatic ticket from the party.
Sources within the party revealed that the expected winner of the primaries may be persuaded to step down for Obaseki on terms to pave way for the governor to run for the elections under the party.
Further reports revealed that the PDP had envisaged what would happen to the governor and had tactically prepared for him to join the party.
Reports say though three aspirants have been screened for the primaries, they may be asked to give way for the governor to emerge as party candidate.
Though Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP national publicity secretary said Obaseki has not officially joined from the ward level, he will be accepted without stress.
