The grieving family of 15-year-old Fadimatu Abubakar Gizo is demanding answers and justice after their daughter allegedly died following a brutal sexual assault while gathering firewood in a forest near Yarume Mai Hako village, Wamakko Local Government Area.
The teenager’s death has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents demanding a thorough investigation and prosecution of suspects currently in police custody.
“She Had a Future Ahead of Her”
Fadimatu’s father, speaking through tears, made an emotional appeal to federal and state authorities, the Nigeria Police Force, and the National Human Rights Commission to ensure no stone is left unturned in the investigation.
“We are deeply bereaved and emotionally devastated by the death of our daughter. We want all the suspects arrested and currently being detained to face justice.”
Her mother, Malama Yar Buga, echoed the call for transparency, struggling to comprehend the tragedy.
“We cannot understand how the life of our daughter could end this way. She had a future ahead of her, and preparations were being made for her marriage.”
Community in Mourning
The Ward Head of Yarume Mai Hako, Alhaji Abubakar Yarume, described the incident as devastating and vowed the community would not rest until justice is served.
“Fadimatu was an honest, disciplined and humble girl, and her life was cut short. We will not rest until justice is served.”
Two friends of the deceased, Khadijah Buba and Faiza Bello, have reportedly provided investigators with crucial information about the incident.
Police Confirm Arrests
Sokoto State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed that suspects are in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as investigations continue. Rufai assured the public of a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
