Kwara United suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Warri Wolves in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter in Ozoro on Sunday.
The Harmony Boys went into the match hoping to secure a positive result but were unable to find the back of the net as Warri Wolves claimed all three points on home soil.
The decisive moment came when Ejike Ezekiel scored for Warri Wolves, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead. Kwara United were unable to find an equaliser before the final whistle.
Kwara United had opportunities to change the outcome of the match, with Jerry Alex and Emmanuel Ekpeyong both getting chances to score. However, the visitors failed to convert their opportunities.
Technical adviser Ashifat Suleiman expressed disappointment with the result and pointed to the difference in how both teams handled their chances in front of goal.
Suleiman acknowledged that both sides had good teams but said Warri Wolves ultimately made better use of their opportunity, with Ezekiel’s goal proving decisive.
“We have a very good team likewise the opponent but the better side won because they took their chances. The goal made difference,” Suleiman said in a statement released by the club.
The defeat means Kwara United will have to turn their attention to improving their performance in the final third, particularly their ability to convert chances into goals.
Suleiman said the team would return to work on that aspect of their game as they look to put the defeat behind them.
“We will go back and work on it so we can get it right in the final third,” he added.
