The Police Service Commission confirms historic promotions following rigorous examinations and interviews in Abuja
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has greenlit the promotion of 93 senior police officers to higher ranks, marking one of the largest promotion exercises in recent times. The approvals came after successful completion of written examinations and oral interviews at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Breakdown of Promotions
The promotion exercise, finalized during Wednesday’s plenary meeting at the PSC Corporate Headquarters, includes:
· 13 Commissioners of Police elevated to Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs)
· 17 Deputy Commissioners promoted to Commissioners of Police
· 28 Assistant Commissioners elevated to Deputy Commissioners
· 33 Chief Superintendents promoted to Assistant Commissioners

New Commissioners of Police (DCPs promoted to CPs):
· Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle A. Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Rita Oyintare, Ibrahim Umar Zungura, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu, Nuruddeen A. Sabo, Tijjani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Ahmed, Adedeji Taiwo, and Zainab A. Pembi
Additionally, 28 ACPs were promoted to DCPs, while 33 CSPs advanced to ACPs. The commission also confirmed the appointment of 162 ASP IIs to the substantive rank of ASP I.
Chairman’s Charge to Officers
Speaking after the exercise, PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd) congratulated the officers while delivering a stern message on integrity and professionalism.
“Guide your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you.”
The chairman charged the newly promoted officers to remain:
· Truthful in all dealings
· Transparent in their operations
· Accountable in their duties
He specifically warned against involvement in civil disputes, particularly land-related matters, and reminded officers that “there is life after retirement.”
