Nigeria’s All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has confirmed it will not nominate a presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, choosing instead to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
The party said the decision was reached by its National Executive Committee (NEC) after consultations, describing the endorsement as a strategic move aimed at promoting national stability and political cooperation ahead of the next election.
Speaking on the development, APGA National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, explained that the absence of the party’s presidential candidate on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal was intentional and should not be interpreted as a failure to comply with electoral regulations.
According to Opara, APGA has successfully submitted the names of all its candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly elections within the deadline set by INEC.
He stressed that while the party has chosen not to challenge the presidency, it remains fully committed to expanding its influence in Nigeria’s legislature through competitive campaigns across the country.
Opara added that APGA’s alliance with President Tinubu at the presidential level does not diminish its political identity or its determination to strengthen democratic representation in the National Assembly and state legislatures.
He urged party members and supporters to unite behind APGA’s legislative candidates while also supporting President Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027.
The clarification follows public interest after political observers noticed that APGA had not uploaded a presidential candidate to INEC’s nomination portal, prompting questions about the party’s electoral strategy. The party insists the decision reflects a deliberate political alliance rather than an administrative omission.
