Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dropped a bombshell allegation, claiming the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is plotting to freeze all state government accounts just days before the August 15 governorship election.
In a statement issued Wednesday by his Information Commissioner, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, Adeleke said he received “credible reports” that the anti-graft agency had concluded plans to not only freeze government accounts but also those of top state functionaries.
The governor described the alleged move as “the height of lawlessness,” insisting it is a deliberate ploy to paralyze government activities and cripple his administration ahead of the crucial poll.
“The governor affirmed that there is no legal basis or justification for any push to freeze the state government accounts, declaring that the anti-graft agency has no legal powers to freeze the account of a state government,” the statement read.
The allegation comes amid intense political tension as Adeleke of the Accord Party seeks re-election against the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The governor has repeatedly cried foul over what he describes as political pressure and interference aimed at undermining his administration in the lead-up to the election.
The EFCC had yet to respond to the allegation as of press time.
