WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons Face Defining Egypt Clash as Quarter-final Race Goes Down to the Wire

The battle for a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) reaches a dramatic stage as defending champions Nigeria prepare to face Egypt in their final Group C fixture on Wednesday night.

Although Egypt have already been eliminated from the tournament, the match remains one of the most important games of the group stage for the Super Falcons. Nigeria must secure victory to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout rounds alive.

At the same time, another decisive encounter will see group leaders Malawi take on Zambia. The outcome of both matches could create a three-way tie on six points if Zambia defeat Malawi and Nigeria overcome Egypt.

Should that happen, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will use the head-to-head results involving Nigeria, Malawi and Zambia to determine which two teams advance to the quarter-finals.
The scenario sets up one of the most competitive finishes of the group stage, with every goal potentially influencing the final standings.

Nigeria, one of Africa’s most successful women’s football nations, will be aiming to deliver a convincing performance against Egypt and avoid relying on complex qualification calculations.
The match will be played at the Stade Olympique de Rabat in Morocco, with kick-off scheduled for 9:00 p.m. West African Time (WAT). Fans across Africa and beyond will be able to watch the game through AfroSport, SuperSport and CAF TV, all official broadcasters of the tournament.

With the defending champions under pressure and qualification still uncertain, the clash promises to be one of the standout fixtures of WAFCON 2026 as Africa’s biggest women’s football competition continues to capture global attention.
