Former President’s memory to be celebrated with solemn remembrance on July 13
A year after Nigeria bid farewell to former President Muhammadu Buhari, associates, family members, and supporters will gather in prayer and reflection to honour his life and enduring legacy.
Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad announced on Tuesday that a remembrance event will take place on Monday, July 13 exactly one year after the late leader’s passing.
“On Monday, July 13th, we will gather in solemn remembrance to honour the life, legacy and enduring service of our late boss, former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, one year after his passing,” Ahmad wrote on his official X page.
Ahmad described Buhari as a leader who served Nigeria with unwavering “commitment, integrity, discipline and patriotism,” emphasising that his contributions to national development are permanently etched in the country’s history books.
The gathering will bring together family members, former aides, political associates, and well-wishers for prayers and reflection, with supplications offered for Allah’s forgiveness and mercy upon the late president.
“May Allah grant him eternal rest. Ameen,” Ahmad concluded.
A Leader’s Final Chapter
Buhari passed away on July 13, 2025, at age 82 in a London clinic following a prolonged illness. His remains were repatriated to Nigeria and laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
The late president served two terms as Nigeria’s democratically elected leader from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023. He made history as the first opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent president in Nigeria’s 2015 elections a milestone in the nation’s democratic journey. He secured re-election in 2019 before completing his second term in 2023.
A Time for Reflection
The first anniversary remembrance offers an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on Buhari’s leadership, his vision for the nation, and his place in the country’s political history. For those who served alongside him and those who supported his administration, it will be a moment of gratitude, prayer, and quiet contemplation.
