Arise Television anchor Oseni Rufai has criticised Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following the outcome of the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.
Rufai made the comments while speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he discussed the political developments surrounding the Osun election.
The broadcaster specifically took aim at Wike, asking the FCT Minister to stop what he described as “gaslighting” Nigerians over the outcome of the election.
Rufai’s remarks focused on the political expectations surrounding the election and the influence of the APC and its prominent figures.
According to the Arise Television anchor, the federal influence associated with Wike and the ruling party failed to deliver the expected outcome in Osun.
His comments amount to a direct criticism of the political approach taken by Wike and the APC in relation to the election.
Rufai also challenged the narrative surrounding the election outcome, urging Wike to accept the result rather than, in his view, attempting to influence how Nigerians interpret what happened.
The comments have added to the political discussion following the Osun governorship election, particularly over the role of influential political figures and the ruling party in state elections.
Wike remains one of the prominent figures within Nigeria’s political landscape, while the APC is the country’s ruling political party. Rufai’s decision to directly criticise both the minister and the party therefore adds another dimension to the ongoing conversation about the election.
Speaking on television, Rufai did not hide his disagreement with Wike’s position on the outcome. His reference to “federal might” highlighted his view that political influence at the federal level was not enough to determine the outcome of the Osun contest.
The comments have since placed renewed attention on the political implications of the election and the reactions from figures connected to the contest.
The Osun election has continued to attract attention because of the wider political significance attached to governorship contests in Nigeria. State elections often serve as an important measure of the strength of political parties and their ability to mobilise support at the grassroots.
Against that background, Rufai’s criticism of Wike and the APC has added to the debate over the significance of the Osun result.
His remarks were made during a televised discussion on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where political developments are regularly examined and debated.
For Rufai, the outcome of the Osun election provided an opportunity to question the effectiveness of the political influence associated with Wike and the APC.
He therefore called on Wike to stop what he described as “gaslighting” Nigerians over the election result, making clear his disagreement with the minister’s position on the matter.
The development is likely to keep the Osun election in the political spotlight as reactions to the outcome continue.
