The Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Worldwide has condemned the unauthorized use of its logo and identity in political campaign materials linked to a planned reception for Senator Ovie Omo-Agege in Delta State.
In a press statement issued ahead of the event scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026, the socio-cultural organization described the development as misleading and unacceptable, emphasizing that it has no affiliation with the political gathering.
The statement, signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Kehinde Prince Taiga, clarified that the UPU remains a non-partisan body committed to promoting the unity, development, and collective interests of the Urhobo people.
It stressed that the union does not endorse or participate in political campaigns, rallies, or activities involving any individual or political party.
“The use of the UPU logo, name, or insignia in the announcement and campaign materials for the said event is misleading, unauthorized, and unacceptable,” the statement read.
The organization further directed all individuals and groups responsible for the circulation of such materials to immediately cease using its identity in connection with the event.
It also urged members of the public to disregard any suggestion that the union is sponsoring or endorsing the reception.
Reaffirming its stance, the UPU leadership under Chief Barr. Ese Gam Owe reiterated its commitment to neutrality in political matters affecting Delta State and the broader Urhobo nation.
The union warned that it would continue to safeguard its institutional integrity and constitutional role as a socio-cultural body, independent of partisan political interests.
