The Delta state police command has confirmed the remand of one Princess Divine Unuavworho, an ad-hoc delegate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the senatorial primary election of the party in Sapele in May, 2022, for jumping bail while standing trial for false information to the police alleging that she was abducted by four men on the orders of a female member of the party, who was a House of Representatives aspirant.
The spokesperson for the command, DSP Bright Edafe, who gave the confirmation, stated that the said Princess Divine Unuavworho was arrested after her claim was discovered to be false, in a video evidence of what transpired, following which the case was charged to court.
The PPRO said on the day she was arraigned sometime in June, the suspect claimed she was pressed and pleaded with the magistrate to allow her to ease herself only to escape in the process.
He explained that the suspect had been on the run since then, but that she ran out of luck sometime this month when she was rearrested in Warri and brought back to court in Asaba, with an order that she be remanded in the Agbor correctional facility till further notice.
The suspect had, in a petition to the state commissioner of police and AIG zone 5, authored by her counsels, alleged that she was abducted at the venue of the PDP senatorial primary election in Sapele on 23rd May, 2022, by the female politician, who pleaded anonymity, and her armed thugs.
She demanded that the politician and her cohorts be arrested to face justice for hostage taking and vote buying, claiming that a ransom of N4.2 million was collected from her.
Based on the petition, the female politician had four members of her team arrested and detained at the police headquarters in Asaba.
Police investigation, however, revealed that the alarm raised by Princess Divine was false, which turned the case against her.
