Youth leaders in Oshimili North have come together to inaugurate the “College of Oshimili North Youth Leaders,” a body comprising PDP youths, community youth presidents, political female youth leaders, students associations, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), religious youth groups, and non-indigene youth bodies.
The inauguration ceremony, which took place in Akwukwu Igbo, was led by Comrade Lawrence Ofunne Isikwe, the leader of the youth body. He emphasized that the College of Youth Leaders will serve as a platform to galvanize support for the 2027 elections in the local government area.
Comrade Isikwe revealed that a total of 35 youths from each of the 10 wards in the local government area were selected, forming a robust network of 355 youth leaders across Oshimili North. The decision to create this body was driven by the desire to build and empower a new generation of leaders, as the older generation of leaders gradually step aside.
The Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Council, Hon. Innocent Esewenze, addressed the youths, urging them to work closely with the party and local government leadership. He highlighted that the College of Youth Leaders will play a pivotal role in ensuring effective communication with the party and act as the primary channel for engaging with youths across the 10 wards. He also announced a massive empowerment initiative for youths across the local government area, which will be carried out through the newly inaugurated youth body. This empowerment program is expected to include training, appointments, and soft contracts to engage youths meaningfully.
“We want to create a system where, through this structure, youths can earn as much as N500,000 to N1 million per month. Once you are performing well, you will have the opportunity to consistently receive contracts,” Hon. Esewenze stated. “Our mission is to serve you well, and we will empower youths across the local government as per the instructions of our governor.”
The Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Public Enlightenment, Olisa Ifeajika, also attended the event and emphasized that the inauguration was an essential step toward grooming dependable, resourceful, and responsible youths who will be entrusted with leadership roles in the future. He expressed the goal of building a youth leadership structure that could be relied upon by party leaders as the older generation of leaders gradually phase out.
Sir Joseph Eloke Ijeh, the Local Government Party Chairman, assured that the PDP is fully prepared for the 2027 elections, with the party members and youths in Oshimili North working in unity to ensure the party’s success.
Hon. Frank Esenwah, the member representing Oshimili North in the State House of Assembly, noted the enthusiasm and confidence shown by the youths at the inauguration, affirming that their support reflects the trust they place in the state government’s policies.
With this move, Oshimili North’s leadership is set to usher in a new era of empowered and engaged youth, with the potential to shape the political landscape in the coming years.
